The Rocks Markets Bikes
This is my first ever project as a junior designer. I include this because this was the moment I realised there was more to design than logos and layouts. My colleagues told me I should focus on how resourceful I was and it really shaped the direction I took in my creative career.
My journey as a junior designer began with an unforgettable project that ignited my passion for creative problem-solving. As a key player in The Rocks Markets rebrand, I delved into a whole new world of design beyond logos and layouts.
With resourcefulness at the core of my approach, I embarked on a unique wayfinding signage rollout that involved vintage bicycles. I eagerly sourced the bikes and old wooden crates, infusing a touch of nostalgia and charm into the project. To further enhance the authentic feel, I engaged a skilled vintage signwriter, who meticulously hand-painted tin signs.
Connecting the beautifully crafted signs to the crates and bike frames, I strategically placed them throughout Sydney's picturesque The Rocks precinct. The purpose was clear - to help guide visitors effortlessly to the vibrant and world-famous market stalls.
The success of this project was not just about the aesthetics or functionality but also about the realization that design could be a catalyst for meaningful experiences. My colleagues encouraged me to embrace my resourcefulness, and this revelation significantly shaped my creative journey.
This first project marked a pivotal moment in my career, demonstrating the power of creativity to engage, delight, and guide people through their surroundings. The positive impact on visitors and the appreciation of the community affirmed my path as a creative, steering me towards more innovative and purpose-driven design endeavors.
Looking back, I cherish this project as a stepping stone that allowed me to transcend traditional design boundaries, pushing me to explore the vast possibilities of design as a means of shaping experiences and leaving a lasting impression on both clients and audiences alike.
