Our Hood
I came up with Our Hood as a response to the Sydney lock-out laws. Back when I worked as a venue photographer, I saw firsthand how a tragedy was exploited for the profit of a few, leading to the sudden destruction of jobs, businesses, and livelihoods.
Our Hood was a monthly event that aimed to give people a sense of freedom to wander, express themselves, and connect with their community. It was like a city within a city.
We transformed the massive 4000m2 COMMUNE venue in Waterloo into an awesome space filled with all sorts of things to discover. Each area was curated by different Sydney groups, offering art exhibitions, themed yoga sessions, engaging TEDx talks, workshops, a cool local bar, tasty vegan food stalls, live music, and live art.
We even got invited to the Newtown Festival, where we had a curated area of 400m2. It was a fantastic opportunity for thousands of festival-goers to experience COMMUNE and get a taste of what was to come at our new spot on King Street.
